New self-portraits

I’ve been applying for a few modelling jobs recently and realised I could do with some new head-shots so I decided to have a late-night play after my shoot was cancelled on Monday and take some new self-portraits.

Experimenting with new looks inspires my future projects and this is a really easy way to capture them.

grey hair lace bra

For the first look I wanted to try something quite paired down, with natural-ish ( but still perfectly highlighted with hourglass ambient lighting powders) makeup and messy hair. I wanted to keep the colours neutral so I decided to do with this ivory and nude triangle latexlace bra from my most recent Eustratia collection and added a bit of an edge with some chainmail jewellery by Richard Ayres. When I shot these, I assumed they would require quite a lot of perfecting, but I was surprised to find they turned out just the way I wanted and this is probably the least edited image I’ve ever released.

blue lace bra pony ears

I decided to stick with the bras from the latest collection so for the second look, I wore the blue lace bralette and paired it with the pony ear headpiece that I’ve needed a close-up picture of for a while. This is a slightly darker look and I decided to finish it off with a bit more contouring and my new metallic purple lipstick from lipstick queen.

grey hair aurora bra

For the final look, I wanted something a bit more flirty and feminine so I added some cat-eye liner and a coral liquid lipstick by hourglass, as well as a bit of mac glitter on the lid. I swept my hair over to one side and wore the latexlace Aurora bra, also from the new collection.

Please let me know which look is your favourite!

With this collection, I wanted to go back to the origins of Eustratia and create pieces that embody the contradictions which inspired me to start the label. Delicate lace and feminine silhouettes contrasted by harness straps and oversized hardware.

Eustratia winter collection part 1

Sometimes as an independent brand, it’s difficult to produce enough garments for a new collection all in one go. I always struggle to find the balance between making enough money to stay afloat, preserving my artistic integrity and learning new skills, all of which I consider integral parts of running my business. This means that sometimes, I have to prioritise things that break up the flow of creativity and not create as many new items as I planned.

This happened during the creation of my winter collection and I decided to photograph and share what I had and add to it at a later date, instead of risking it looking rushed or producing items I didn’t love.

I was initially afraid there weren’t enough similar items for it to seem like a collection but ater looking at the images, I think the mood comes across, despite the fact that it is incomplete.

Vidal Sassoon, Black Milk

A few months ago, I was involved in a hair presentation project at Vidal Sassoon in Manchester.

The theme was based around the darker side of nature; life-giving, but at the same time wild and dangerous.

It was put together to showcase Melanie Baker‘s hair dressing skills but also featured colour by Helen Jordan and cuts by different members of the Sassoon Manchester team.

A section of one the images from my “winter project” was used as the promo poster, after it inspired Mel to choose the theme.

I then planned the styling, based on the theme, but also being mindful of the sassoon brand.

This shoot took place before the Vanguard collection launch, but we used some of the garments, as well as latex pieces from different collections and even some old favourites, such as veils, flower crowns and antlers.

We also had to do a catwalk and each of the hair styles was inspected and judged individually.

The presentation, catwalk and photoshoot all went really well, Mel did a great job and the whole team was awesome and a pleasure to work with.

I actually shot these as part of my winter project but haven’t been able to release the whole set until now, as I lost the original files when my laptop died in December.

It was the first proper set we shot with Charlie and I thought he did really well.

The set I’m wearing in the pictures is my favourite Eustatia latex lingerie set. I put it on sale last week on my website but have decided to leave the discount on for a couple more days in case any of my blog readers would like to take advantage. You can get 25% off any or all the pieces, here.

The images were shot by Richard Ayres.
